For one thing, he is right about the increase in non-academic staffing at colleges and universities. This is mainly where the "savings" from hiring adjuncts is going. Hire fewer real faculty, use the money to expand the sustainability, diversity, residential life, etc. bureaucracies.<br /><br />I'm also in agreement about intellectual life at European and Japanese universities being less vital than in the U.S. In Europe (and Canada) freedom of speech for ordinary people is being suppressed.
