It is a user-friendly, internet-based application that allows instructors to manage the course and communicate with students. <BR/><BR/>My experience is that a small percentage of professors are using this tool, despite the fact that universities have to pay to subscribe to the service. <BR/><BR/>I use blackboard for the course that I am teaching as a graduate student. It enables me to cut back on paper waste, communicate with the students, and manage the course with relative ease. The students seem to enjoy being able to stay current and connected with the course, in addition to having 24/7 access to the course materials. Students can also track their grades.<BR/><BR/>It is an inefficient use of resources for professors to not be using blackboard. Universities purchases this service with the student's tuition monies.
