Chart of the week: 11/18/08



Since 1976 , staff per FTE student has grown mostly due to increases in non-faculty positions.

Interesting that the privates have a MUCH higher fraction of executive/administrative. This fits with my experience of both types.

Most of the growth in staff has been "other professional" i.e. non-faculty, non-research. Most of this growth has been at the expense of non-professional staff. I guess more diversity officers, fewer window washers. Hmmm that would explain some things.

Interestingly, the faculty/research contingent has stayed about the same. Yet very often the increase in expenditures is blamed on faculty/researchy (which doesn't fit my experience).
